It’s that kinda night

Standard

I don’t have time to do what I want to do, just what I need to do. But I did take a moment to capture my boys sleeping. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them so nearly-perfectly in the same position. And, you can tell by their ears, they aren’t really asleep and are a split second away from looking up to see what I’m doing!

Lokii is four today!

Standard

Today is little Lokii’s fourth birthday! So here’s some baby photos of him.

20120505-215145.jpg
In June 2008, we went to the breeder to pick a kitten out of the five she had. Two were boys, and I wanted a boy. One in particular was more adventurous than his siblings and I picked him. He’s so tiny! Fits in the palm of my hand.

20120505-215414.jpg
That’s him front and centre, being brave and curious and getting closest to the strange skritchy noise I was making on the cushions.
Of course he was still too young to take home – we had to wait until August! But I was glad we found our boy and I was excited to be having a Siamese coming back into my life soon.

20120505-215751.jpg
A terrible photo the breeder emailed us a few weeks later! Crazy bat-eared kitty.

20120505-220020.jpg
First day home cuddling with his new Daddy! So small! He’s always been a bit of a daddy’s boy, too.

20120505-220210.jpg

20120505-220352.jpg
Small enough to fit in a 8-pack beer box! Yes, I drink this crap on occasion.

20120505-220532.jpg
Playing in the paper that had covered a care package from Socks 🙂

20120505-220617.jpg
All giant nose and big ears back then, and already evidencing his typical, slightly-bewildered expression. He’s a bit goofy and not very mechanical, for a Siamese, but I loves the little guy to bits.

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!

Standard

I don’t have much time, so I think I’ll save the ‘human sacrifice’ and ‘mass hysteria’ parts of this post for another day. I did have something that upset me -us- yesterday but I’m still having to think hard on it and amn’t ready to talk about it yet.

So I’m skipping right to the dogs and cats living together. Much more entertaining visually, in any case!

I can’t take credit for this one – iDJ took it with his ‘new’ iPhone 4S.

American Akita sleeping in the sun.jpg
Yes, she usually looks that depressed. She has issues. Even when getting to lie in the sunny spot at the top of the landing, and displacing the cats.

Bengal and Siamese cats in the sun.jpg
It was okay, just this once – because the boys also had sunshine in our room. All those little feet hanging off the side of the bed make me giggle. Hubby also took this one.

Another day, with me behind the lens (and it shows). Lokii just looked so … melted. Hard to see his little face though, in all that sunshine.

And this morning Spot took his revenge on Neko for hogging the sunshine. This is what greeted me this morning – I had to use iDJ’s phone as it has a flash and it was too dark for my iPad. Yes, I sleep with my ‘pad and he sleeps with his ‘phone. We are sad, sad, sad. If we weren’t so pathetic, however, you wouldn’t be seeing the cat yet again win over the dogeen.

Spot’s never done this before – he normally sleeps on me like a furry lead weight. I can only guess my mental agitation once again led to physical agitation and I elbowed him one too many times in my sleep, so he turned to His Dog for comfort.

Fabulous housekeeping!

Standard

I’m so proud of myself: I cleaned something that really needed cleaning.

Really cleaning. Not like washing dishes, or rinsing the coffeepot before use, oh no.

Let me tell the long story. I will anyway, it’s my blog…

Hubby made pork chops for dinner. Before he cooked them, they were in a plastic bag. Which he thoughtfully left in the sink, crawling with icky pork juice. I held the lid of our bin out for him and he put it on the inside of the lid (keeps it from dripping on the trek from sink to garbage can, aren’t I clever). I took the contaminated plastic to the bin and promptly dumped it on the floor next to the bin. I made him pick it up since only one of us should have to wash our hands, clever me again. *snort*

Soooo… now I have gook on my floor, and all down the outside of the can, and need to get out the anti-bacterial spray and clean it up. Oh yes, so clever am I, with my clever methods of cleverly keeping nasty shite off my floor. So I cleaned it up, after snarking at him for not doing it himself, of course. He pretended he was just about to do it, of course. Ah, marriage…

But wait! There’s more. I didn’t toss the paper towel in the bin because it was barely used, after all. I left it on top of the bin, with the spray, to remind me of something else that needed cleaning: a place where one of the cats had barfed on our wooden stairs. I saw the distinctly not-clean spot last week yesterday and it had been bothering me ever since.

Eventually I had to pee and actually walked through the kitchen first, and lo! I cleaned the ick off the stairs.

But…the paper towel still wasn’t really, really, nasty. Surely there was something else I needed antibacterial spray for, now that I’d bothered to bring it all the way upstairs?

Well, yes. Way back in…October, I think… Spot got accidentally locked in our box room. This is a tiny, tiny, room that is the place where I hide the plants the cats will eat and any junk I don’t know what else to do with. Spot got locked in there for a few hours, so he had a good old chomp on the greenery. Which, of course, he puked back up. I wiped up the chunks right away, but after that amount of time, there was a sludge dried to the wood that needed more than a wipe.

I go in there maybe once a week to water plants. And have, since October, or whenever it was. But I never cleaned up the sludge.

Until tonight! Go, me! I deserve another rum and Pepsi. Glad the pork chops are almost done, too; after all that work I need a snack.

I received a Major Award!

Standard

I won something! I really, really did. This is such a rarity for me! I responded to a contest being held over on Tranquil Space Designs‘ blog, and I was the first winner of a freakin’ amazing prize: 3 full sets of Magic Mojo greeting cards, with a retail value of £110.00/$175! I got them in the post today (actually, they came two days ago but we had to sign for the parcel and couldn’t get to An Post until today).

First, I have to show you the incredibly appropriate and very ecologically-friendly box my Award arrived in:

20120412-201534.jpg
Purr-fect, no? Sorry I have no idea why I took such a crooked picture. It looked right at the time… I guess I was just too excited to open the box and see what was inside!

I had to wait until iDJ came home from running errands so he could share in the Award Ceremony. The cats also helped. They knew very well that this box had something to do with cats. We sat down on the couch and went through every card, giggling like kids. His favourite was ‘Keep calm and kitty on’ where mine was – oh man, too hard. I laughed a lot at ‘Come on Baby Lick My Fur’ and ‘aww’ed a lot at the Oliver Twist kitten… nope, I can’t say I have a favourite. BUT! I didn’t realise at first that most of the cards had a funny little descriptive paragraph on the back that was related to the front (the inside is blank). So then we got to go back through and read them all!

iDJ said I can’t send them to anyone, they are too nice. I countered with, ‘But that’s what they are for!’ I have good people in my life that will love these as much as I do, and will keep them forever (they better or they’re off the ‘good people’ list).

I might have to keep one or two…or three…or…

20120412-202732.jpg
The contest is still open, so GO and see if you can win, too! If you do win, let me know – I’ll post one to you and you can post the same one back to me, so we can keep it forever – we’re good people, after all!

Goofy photos – I’m in a ‘mood.’

Standard

I wanted to do a Brushes drawing this eve, as it has been yonks upon yonks since I have. My idea was to find a pic of something in my garden and give a quick, fun once over.

To find the pics, I had to hit FB and troll through thousands of pics me and iDJ have taken.

I got distracted.

So here’s some randomness. It’s mostly Spottie, as he is just adorable.

Him on the radiator cat bed we used to have, until Lokii ate it.

Me and Spottie in a rare foray into the outdoors. What are you lookin at? It’s not his fault I made him go upside down so his bits were on display…

giant octopus dog toy.jpg
More proof that I buy dog toys for me, not the dog. It has a fart-honk-quack noise in the head, and I walked around the shop for ages randomly hugging it just to hear the honk, and giggling. I even did it in the queue for the register. I couldn’t help myself.

cats on a laptop.jpg
Hubby’s caption for this is best,”No computer for you!”

a girl and her Harley.jpg
Me cleaning my Harley. I’ve nearly forgotten what it looks like… this is not the country for motorcycling. Judging from the size of the tulips, this was taken about this time of year – but it wasn’t last year 😦

bengal and akita.jpg
Best buddies! Spot really is an all-species-friend. He’d probably cuddle up to a parrot, if I ever got one…

A grumpy kitty

Standard

I’m sleepy, and I’ve not been feeling well this week – perhaps psycho-somatic as I would much rather be sitting in the sun we have had this week, rather than stuck in an office smelling girl-farts.

So, to make me feel better: here’s my Bengal boy Spot looking as if his life is a misery; when in reality it is a never-ending joy of sunbeams and comfy blankets and cuddles with his brother, or his people.

Life is hell, life IS hell – better get used to it, Spottie-Pants: at your age, it will only get more difficult.

Sunshine, music, and kitties

Standard

I have had a lovely, sunny, summery day today. And I did next to nothing. I enjoyed the sunshine; I ate the huge breakfast my hubby cooked; and eventually I did some of the dishes. I’d intended to paint my scavenged trellises a bit more – but only if the hubby could help me remember what odd place I’d left the paint tin. Instead we ended up with a huge crisis in which a tin of clear varnish was not only upside down and opened up and spilled everywhere, but did so inside The Closet Of Doom. Hence things like toolboxes, old paint tins, step stools, work gloves, ironing boards – and our Dyson – were coated liberally with acrylic varnish. Yay! After cleaning that enormous mess up, I no longer had any desire to paint, so I sat and read in the sun for several more hours.

The hardship, the horror. I know, I know.

I had to move out front as there was no more sunshine in the back garden. Now, I grew up in the American south, and it just isn’t done to sit out front of your house and drink a beer unless you qualify as po’ white trash (I am white, what other color trash could I be?), but I get sunshine so rarely that I just had to. My concession to being sort-of-in-public was to take a shower first. Good thing I did, because I just wouldn’t have been respectable enough to listen to my neighbour’s teenage son and his friend – who were conversing a few yards away in his driveway – fart loudly and giggle softly if my hair wasn’t clean.

Eventually, the sun gave up on me and I relocated to the back garden again where iDJ was preparing to have a BBQ and, of course, had the tunes a-goin. I stopped trying to read about serial killers and took pictures of Spot trying to open the sliding glass door with one pathetic kitty-arm:

20120325-221642.jpg

You can’t blame him, really. Both of his people and his dog were outside (see Neko in the reflection?). And because iDJ has to have music allllll the time, the door was open a crack to allow for the speaker-wires. I understand, being a sun-worshiper myself. But I’ll stay in my yard, and he won’t, the bad boy.

Evening ended up with lovely sausages and burgers and me being dead tired but having to get up extra-early for some physiotherapy on my back. Somehow I think a few more hours in the sun would do me a better turn…

Kitty-stackers

Standard

Because I love the wee lads, and they are being adorable, here’s a couple pics of Spot curled up on top of his little brother. Poor Lokii doesn’t seem to care, but yet he isn’t sleeping, either…

Spot, however, has no compunctions about smothering Lokes. Apologies as always for terrible-quality iPad pictures. I knew if I got out the ‘real’ camera they wouldn’t stay that way!
