Right, so – iDJ and I just had a serious conversation about getting the dog ‘fixed’.

She’s my first female dog, and I did NOT expect a dog’s heat to be so disgusting. She bleeds everywhere for two weeks. It’s horrible. Luckily we have no carpet, so clean up isn’t too hard – if I could be bothered to do it. Last time she was in heat, I found blood spattered all over the lower half of the front door. Two weeks after she was all done. Ew, ew, ewwwww. There’s only so much a Magic Sponge can do, you know? And putting her in his old ratty boxers, with her tail out of the flies, just means we have to change her undies a few times a day and chase her around to put them back on when she slips out of them.
Oh yes, sooo great for everyone! Now, fair play to Neeks, she does not mind wearing people clothes at all, and never fights this indignity. But she sneaks out of her dog-jocks in her sleep, or when waiting for one of us to come home, or…okay, all the time. But she doesn’t do it on purpose at least.
See…it’s bad to leave her ‘broken,’ aka unfixed. She can get an infection from repeated heats without pregnancy. I don’t want to risk that, and we’ve risked it too long as we’ve been too broke to fix what’s broke.
Since I got a pay rise at work a few months ago, we’ve recovered a tiny bit and first on my list once we got some ‘wiggle room’ is to get Herself spayed.
And now it seems it’s a plan.
Hope we don’t have to dig the Cone of Shame back out of the attic…

There’s really no reason NOT to fix her. If you don’t plan on breeding her, you should get her spayed. I don’t know about where you are, but we actually have some resources around here that will do it for very cheap and a “neuter Scooter” that even comes to you. BTW, LMAO at the dog in boxers…
The only reason was the money. We got her December 2009, and I lost my job in February 2010. Only just got another this January and it’s taken this long just to be able to put it on a credit card. Forget having the cash! No, it’s not cheap here and there aren’t resources locally. Sigh.

Been there, done that and Ewwwwww is right! My dog Maggie, who is now departed bless her sweet soul, was unfixed for a while and I got a little “harness” to help her cover the mess. Unfortunately it was black vinyl and looked like a BDSM outfit. I will NEVER live down the image of my poor doggie dressed up like a dominatrix. Sigh……

The mountain is Nafan – the lake is named Pontoon! Too funny, really. I’m surprised we found it nice enough to let her go swimming that day.
Yes! She will be a happier camper all round, and so will you. This is one of those outlays that really amounts to an investment. However, I am indebted to you for the image of a dog in boxer shorts. That belongs on one of those animal-pic websites.
I have better pics, somewhere! She’s a good sport about it. Dog-jocks, puppy-panties, they did the trick! But augh, they got disgusting fast.
Great decision. Cancer risks are reduced, cleanup avoided and iDJ doesn’t lose any more boxer shorts! She’s young and will recover quickly so the cone of shame shouldn’t be necessary 😉
She’ll be three next month. I feel terrible we had to put it off this long.

Aaah, I remmber this! When I still lived at home, and my parents didn’t had the dog fixed yet. My mom made special panties for her, and put woman’s towels (ifyouknowwhatImean) In them. Hahahaha. The dog hated it, but it was just too funny.
Hahaha! I can’t sew. And I hate to! So this is the only option, glad Neko doesn’t hate it! So glad we have digital camera now and can just snap away at these silly things in our lives.

I’ve always found it bothersome when people argue about keeping their animals unfixed… when they truly have no intention to breed the animal. Only Sammy isn’t fix and it won’t be to long now before he loses his little buddies. It easier on the animal and easier on us, why not do it?
