Sigh. Last evening Neko barfed up her food. All of it. It wasn’t like a normal dog-puke in that she emptied her entire stomach. I cleaned it up, and chalked it up to her being upset that ‘daddy’ wasn’t home at a time he normally would be.
I let her out, and the other end of her digestive system was working normally.
Roll on to five am, and she is puking again. Three big piles IN her dog basket before I was awake enough to get her out of it and onto the wood floor. (Why do animals always want to puke on fabric? What is the attraction?!? I can barely fit that bed in my washing machine…)
Unfortunately she didn’t stop vomiting this time when all the food was up. She was straining and repeating to barf until it was bloody foam. I set iDJ on to Google while I held Neko’s hair out of her face, figuratively. When she stopped he took her outside where she had another normal poop.
Argh, now what? Google (and common sense) say take her to the vet. Which we will, of course, as soon as we can get there this morning.
The problem is that we only have one car, and I have to use it to get to work. Work is 20k the other direction from the vet’s office, which is at least a half-hour away. There’s no good way to do this, unless iDJ can borrow a van from work. He says he can. I hope that’s a 100% yes, because a maybe at this point is no good to Neko.
Poor pup. Wish I could make it all better.

But it seems every time we go they say something different.
It sounds like they’re groping. Are there any other veterinary services you could take her to? Only I have had to change vet hospitals three times before I found myself with a doctor who wasn’t clueless, greedy, indifferent or all of the above.
We really like our vets – they are brothers (we think). Not greedy or indifferent, but we’re beginning to wonder about the clueless part.
Poor Baby! It is odd about wanting to throw up on cloth….they all do…maybe it’s instinct back when they made nests in tall grasses? Do hope some solution appears – and everyone feels better.

Had the same problem with Lucy, my Jack. Turned out she had eaten half a dead rat that had been poisoned. Rat poison is an anti-coagulent; basically, it cause the rat to hemorrhage to death. Took her to the emergency vet who had an antidote but it was horrible night I won’t forget.

We thought she was better, but today she had diarrhoea and a couple of little, non-bloody puking episodes. We’re keeping her on rice and fish for a few days longer…
Rice and fish sounds just right. Can she also eat chicken, or it’s not good for dogs? How is she in general, does she look tired or sick?
Chicken is fine – but it’s expensive in comparison. She seems perfectly fine, and she’s not pleased by being put back on another 24 hour fast (because we started her back on real food too soon, again the vet-brothers agree to disagree). She always seems perfectly normal until it is too late! Very much like a cat hiding her pain – if she was/is in pain…
Sending some comforting purrrrrrrsss to Neko. It sounds to us like she might have eaten something untoward. Purrrrraying that she feels better soonest.
PS: Not sure about the bed, but usually if you fuss a little, you can take the cover off and wash just that. FWIW.
She couldn’t have eaten anything odd, unless it was something in the house and it didn’t show up in the barf. She’s never outside unattended.
The bed is big, but the bottom pad comes out and has been duly washed! And not by ME! Bonus 🙂
