Huh. I’m a bit bummed out. I had no idea that the Tigrida iDJ bought for me is a very, very short-lived bloom.
This was open when I went to work, at 9:30 am.
But by the time I got home, at around 6:50, the blooms were shrivelled and limp.
It seems that if I can’t get a photo within the 6 or so hours the blooms are open, I’m out of luck.
By the time I get home, they look like this.
How sad that I only get a few minutes with each amazingly beautiful flower.
Every one is unique – see that strange tongue running down the petal? I have no idea of what use that might be… A bee landing-strip, like an orchid? I’m sure I will never know, having them so far from their South American home. They are undeniably beautiful, I just wish I had more time to appreciate my ‘jaguar flowers.’
Beautiful… but last for one day- as many flowers do. Thanks for the beautiful photographs – and I hope you get many days enjoyment from your lovely gift…. imagine the fabulously exotic weekend you are going to have !
I see there are a few ready to bloom on the morrow, so I hope to have good weather and get to enjoy them properly!

They are very beautiful, i have never seen them before. maybe they are tropical rain forest types and never see direct sun, may last longer in good shade? Good luck wit them, they are stunning!
South American, it seems! Not seen bees having a go, either, more’s the pity.
It’s a beautiful flower nonetheless. 🙂
Three more this morning! Already gone 😦
never saw anything like that! Thanks for the gorgeous photos of something new to me.
