A very, very, late request.

Standard

Today is the longest day of the year. I’d love to see your photos of sunset and sunrise, with the time the pic was taken! I’ll post them, if anyone cares to try it. It’s 11pm here and cloudy, but there is still a glimmer of light. Any takers? I don’t mind if it is tomorrow instead, as I’ve only just had this idea.

To be honest, I don’t know myself if I can be up at 4 or whenever the sky gets light these days!

Here’s a terrible iPad photo of my night sky, at 11:15 pm. I hope you appreciate its crappiness as I have two freezing cold wet feet from going outside to take this!

  1. Midnight, just turned from the 21st to the 22nd. I’ll see if I can remember to take a picture tomorrow (today for you). Might possibly be a very long day (and not in the astronomical point of view — I really mean a very busy day). That’ll be closer to 9h30PM than 11h30PM though. Would the difference be because you are way up north than we are?

      • Unfortunately, I was not able to take any good picture. I didn’t forget, I was ready to take these, but late that evening we had rain and there was nothing interesting to shoot. I thought oh well, I’ll take a few tomorrows… A thunderstorm screwed that. Sad I didn’t get the idea right on the 21st, it had been a great day and a great evening, I was even out watching the sunset that evening, but it never occurred to me to take any picture. I had several hours left after you posted this post, but I only got to read it a few hours after that sunset.

Ireland is on a higher altitude than *some* of Canada… Well, remember that 98% of the Canadians are near the southern border, so if you look at it this way, we are way more to the south than you are. If only we could swap the marine currents, I’d take your warm currents anytime and give you our cold ones.

        • Ah well – as stated, it was a very, very late idea! Maybe next year. My friend in Alaska has been posting photos on FB, after one I put up, and it gave me the idea.

My only sibling will be moving to Anchorage, Alaska in a few months, so I guess she’ll have us all beat in the latitude Olympics. She also suffers from seasonal affective disorder so I’m very worried for her. She promises to bring several sun lamps to help.

Thoughts? Gardening tips? Cocktail recipes? Don't just like and leave, please - I can talk for Ireland and would love to prove it!
